02/02/22 Imai Gazette

Principal’s Message:

Dear Imai Families,

Happy Lunar New Year to all families who celebrate! Hope this new year brings you good fortune, peace and prosperity. This month we also celebrate Black History Month. We will take the time to learn about the two cultures and acknowledge  all of the great contributions that each of them bring.  When we acknowledge our different cultures we show our students that we value them and respect their uniqueness.

We are starting the process to allow volunteers back on site but in order to keep the safety of our students and staff, we are going to start slowly so please be patient with us. I will meet with our PTA Board, School Site Council members and staff to plan our next steps. Volunteer opportunities that we will start with will be Project Cornerstone readers and Living Classrooms helpers. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Spelling Bee Winner!!

On Thursday the 27th, 71 first through fifth graders competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Students took an online test consisting of 20 words. Some words were hard like "throat" and "relative" and some words were REALLY HARD like "vuvuzela" and "aquiline." The competition was fierce and after the initial competition and two tie breakers we can announce our winners! Congratulations to our third place winner - fifth grader Mason from room 15; our second place winner - fifth grader Kieran from room 16; and our first place winner - third grader Ishan from room 10! Ishan will move on to compete in the regional competition in a couple of weeks. Big congratulations to all of our hard-working contestants!
