Principal’s Message:

Quote of the week

“Your education is a dress rehearsal for a life that is yours to lead.”

-Nora Ephron

Dear Huff Families,

I can’t believe the year it’s almost done. It’s been quite a ride but we have preserved and made lots of memories. Thank you for all of your support this year.

Choosing a Mascot

Since we’ll have a new school name, the students and staff at Huff will discuss a potential new  mascot and new school colors through the use of the ThoughtExchange platform. Even though the new name is not final yet, we are asking you now before summer break, for your priorities for a potential new mascot and school colors.

Students who do not complete the ThoughtExchange during class time are encouraged to participate  in the ThoughtExchange at home using this link [https://tejoin.com/scroll/463026524]. Students and staff are encouraged to both provide and rate thoughts using the online discussion platform. The deadline for ThoughtExchange participation is May 28th.

Summer Challenge

This summer your child has the opportunity to keep their chromebooks and use the apps on Clever to continue improving their reading and math skills. We also have a summer challenge available for all students to earn some cool school swag. The more you do the more points you earn. All prices will be awarded in August.

Instructions

  1. Login to Clever using your Clever badge or username and password and use any of the learning apps.

  2. Practice for 15-20 minutes daily.

  3. Your child can also submit a google form for reading books, working on workbooks, etc...

  4. Submit a google form with your minutes. The google survey can be submitted daily or weekly.

  5. Clever will be shut off in the middle of July but you can continue to earn points by using BrainPop, Raz Kids, Khan Academy, reading books, etc…

If you are not returning to Huff next year, please make sure you turn in your chromebook to the office.

Have a wonderful week! Stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Arline Siam

District News:

MVWSD Summer is here!

Every family's summer plans are different, but our district recommends that all students do some academic practice daily to keep their skills sharp in preparation for next year. MVWSD Summer is a collection of programs to help students maintain their academic skills, keep them connected to learning technology, and access free meals all summer long. These self- and parent-directed programs keep students in a routine during the summer and will go a long way to preventing learning loss. On i-Ready this summer, students will have both personalized lessons that their teachers have chosen for them, and lessons tailored to their needs based on assessment data.

Look for an email soon from MVWSD or click on https://www.mvwsd.org/summer to learn more. Attached are flyers outlining students’ steps for a productive summer and for easy access to all of the programs’ links.

View and comment on MVWSD’s Local Control Accountability Plan draft

The District is finalizing its draft of the LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan). This is the District’s three-year plan that will correspond with the first three years of the District’s new Strategic Plan 2027. These documents are the blueprints that guide all of the District’s work for the benefit of our students.

Stakeholders are welcome to comment on the draft LCAP plan.  Please read the presentation and supporting materials at mvwsd.org/lcap, and click on the form link there to submit any comments. The Yearbook Has Arrived!

The new yearbook has arrived! Huff is the only school in the entire district (elementary OR middle school) with a yearbook this year. This is a really great memento your child can look back on or share about how it was to have school during COVID. Since there weren’t typical fall portraits this is a way to also remember all the kids in your child’s class as there are portraits and a group photo for each class. (Our teachers helped a lot!) We really love the uniqueness of each page and it really represented the feel of the year.

Order a Yearbook!

You can still order a yearbook now for $20 (before shipping).
